CMDB 360 preserves source-level attribute history<\/h2>\n

When several sources report on the same CI, the normal CMDB record shows the reconciled value, not every proposed value. CMDB 360 retains source history at the attribute level. If a new connector reports a different value but lacks authority, the CMDB may remain unchanged while source disagreement grows. That disagreement can still be a useful early warning about mapping or ownership problems.<\/p>\n

Source dashboards are also useful for capacity planning. If a new connector dramatically increases attribute-history volume or query load, administrators may need to adjust scope or reporting cadence. More source detail is valuable only if teams can analyze it efficiently. Monitor the operational cost of source transparency as adoption grows.<\/p>\n

CMDB 360 is most valuable when the organization actually uses the source evidence it preserves. Include source-history review in connector onboarding, reconciliation changes, migration validation, and recurring quality investigations. Reconciliation rules still decide the active CMDB value. CMDB 360 does not replace IRE. CMDB 360 dashboards can show how many sources report on CIs and how coverage is distributed. A critical class populated by only one source has a different resilience profile from one supported by several independent sources. That does not mean more sources are always better\u2014conflicting feeds create governance cost\u2014but coverage data helps teams understand where an integration outage would leave the CMDB stale.<\/p>\n

Source inactivity is another diagnostic signal. A CI may stay present in CMDB after a connector stops reporting. Coverage dashboards can help identify classes or source populations that suddenly shrink. Pair that information with staleness metrics and integration monitoring so teams can distinguish true retirement from source failure.<\/p>\n

During source decommissioning, identify CIs for which the retiring source is the only reporter. Those records need a replacement source, manual stewardship, or a lifecycle decision. Before reverting, understand which attributes and CIs are affected and whether another source can provide a trusted replacement. After recomputation, validate downstream service and health views.<\/p>\n

Reconciliation-rule changes should be tested against historical source data. If authority shifts from Source A to Source B, CMDB 360 can help show where their values differ and what recomputation could change. Review a representative sample before applying a broad rule change. A governance decision that seems logical on paper can overwrite useful values if the new source has gaps.<\/p>\n

Source reconciliation should also be reviewed when attributes change ownership during platform migrations. A new connector may start as secondary and later become authoritative after validation. Plan that transition explicitly and document the date, affected attributes, and rollback decision. Otherwise teams can forget why a source has priority and make future troubleshooting harder.<\/p>\n

Saved queries turn source history into repeatable analysis<\/h2>\n

The CIS-DF Insight domain explicitly includes building custom reports using CMDB 360 data and CMDB Saved Queries. Use repeatable queries for questions that recur: CIs reported by multiple sources, values that differ across sources, or source coverage for a principal class. A saved query is most useful when it supports a governance decision or remediation workflow rather than simply producing another dashboard.<\/p>\n

Queries should be designed around a remediation question. For example: Which principal-class CIs are reported by more than one source and have conflicting owner values? Which CIs are only reported by a source scheduled for decommissioning? Which attributes are frequently overridden by reconciliation? Those questions lead directly to governance actions.<\/p>\n

Health shows whether records meet defined quality expectations; CMDB 360 explains how source data contributed to those records. Data health and governance<\/a> connect those quality expectations to ownership and remediation. When a stale or duplicate issue appears, source history can reveal which ingestion path stopped reporting or introduced conflicting identity. The two capabilities answer different parts of the same operational question.<\/p>\n

Documenting source authority alongside CMDB 360 views also helps future administrators understand why one proposal wins. Source precedence without rationale eventually becomes configuration archaeology.<\/p>\n

Source analysis needs class and service context<\/h2>\n

A global source count can hide where problems matter. Filter analysis to important classes, services, or principal classes. A low-quality source feeding a critical production class deserves more attention than the same issue in a low-value test class. The current CIS-DF blueprint refers to \u201cCMDB 360\/multisource CMDB,\u201d reflecting continuity with the earlier capability. Candidates should recognize both terms, but current ServiceNow product documentation positions CMDB 360 as the active experience and states that it includes legacy Multisource functionality plus more. Use the old term as an alias or historical reference, not as the sole current product name.<\/p>\n

CMDB 360 is particularly useful during source migrations. When one discovery platform replaces another, administrators can compare coverage and attribute proposals from both sources during an overlap period. This provides evidence that the new source is reporting the required population before the old source loses authority. A clean cutover is safer when source history shows comparable coverage instead of relying only on record counts.<\/p>\n
