DP-203 preparation built useful habits around ingestion, transformation, batch and streaming patterns, data lakes, orchestration, security, monitoring, and performance. Fabric changes the operating context<\/h2>\n

DP-700 is organized around Microsoft Fabric rather than a collection of separate Azure data services. A candidate who only knows the old service map needs to learn how those capabilities fit together under Fabric governance and operations.<\/p>\n

Keep SQL and PySpark, then add KQL where it belongs<\/h2>\n

Data engineers still need to transform and query data, but the current role expects comfort across SQL, PySpark, and Kusto Query Language. Do not study them as three syntax lists. Use each against the workload it fits: relational or warehouse-style querying, distributed data processing, and event or real-time analytical scenarios. Rebuild one old pipeline in Fabric<\/h2>\n

Take a DP-203-style project that ingests files, cleans and transforms data, and publishes a curated dataset. Rebuild it in Fabric using a lakehouse or warehouse, pipelines or notebooks, and a clear orchestration sequence. Then add security, monitoring, retry behavior, and a recovery plan. Monitoring and optimization are part of the role<\/h2>\n

A pipeline is not finished because it produced data once. Measure duration, failures, resource behavior, data freshness, and downstream impact. Diagnose slow transformations, inefficient partitioning, repeated full loads, and jobs that do more work than the business requirement needs. DP-700 treats operations as part of engineering rather than a support-team concern.<\/p>\n

Learn the difference between moving data and sharing data<\/h2>\n

Modern Fabric designs can reduce unnecessary copying through shared analytical storage and shortcuts. That does not mean every source should be exposed directly. Decide based on ownership, performance, governance, freshness, and failure boundaries. A strong data engineer can explain when data should be ingested, transformed, referenced, or materialized for a specific consumer.<\/p>\n

Use your experience as an advantage, not a constraint<\/h2>\n

The biggest risk for former DP-203 candidates is forcing every Fabric concept into an old Azure service analogy. Transfer the engineering principles but learn the new control plane on its own terms. Workspaces, OneLake, Fabric security, real-time intelligence, and integrated monitoring deserve direct practice rather than mental translation through Synapse or Data Factory alone.<\/p>\n

The current destination<\/h2>\n

If DP-203 kept \u201cgetting away,\u201d the retirement ends the question of whether you should attempt it. You cannot. Use the work you already did as a foundation, map the gaps to DP-700, and demonstrate the current role by building a secure, observable Fabric data flow from ingestion through consumption.
