OG0-091 is the English TOGAF 9 Part 1 examination. Current Open Group support material still documents TOGAF 9 as part of the certification portfolio alongside the newer TOGAF Standard, 10th Edition paths. The exam uses 40 simple multiple-choice questions, allows 60 minutes, is closed book, and requires at least 55 percent. Passing Part 1 establishes the Foundation-level result within the TOGAF 9 route.
That current availability should not be confused with being the newest TOGAF pathway. Candidates can also pursue TOGAF Enterprise Architecture Foundation through OGEA-101, which is based on the Bodies of Knowledge derived from the 10th Edition. Anyone selecting OG0-091 in 2026 should do so deliberately—because an employer, training program, existing path, or personal objective specifically calls for TOGAF 9—not because an old study guide happens to use that code.
Preparation for OG0-091 is fundamentally about precise comprehension. The exam tests the vocabulary, structure, concepts, and method of the TOGAF 9 body of knowledge. Candidates should build a mental model of how the framework fits together rather than memorize isolated definitions.
The ADM gives TOGAF study its structure. Learn why the Preliminary Phase establishes capability and principles, what Phase A must achieve before deeper domain architecture work, how business, information-systems, and technology architecture development interact, and why opportunities, migration planning, implementation governance, and change management complete the lifecycle. Requirements Management is not simply another phase; it interacts with work throughout the cycle.
Do not study the ADM as a fixed project schedule. TOGAF allows iteration, tailoring, and movement within and between phases according to context. Foundation-level questions can still test purpose, relationships, and expected activity without requiring Part 2-style scenario analysis. Learn what each phase is trying to accomplish and what kinds of information must exist before work can responsibly move forward.
A useful study exercise is to take a transformation initiative and ask what decisions, inputs, outputs, and stakeholders become important at each point. This prevents phase names from becoming a memorized sequence with no operational meaning.
OG0-091 expects candidates to distinguish ideas such as stakeholders and concerns, views and viewpoints, architecture principles, deliverables, artifacts, building blocks, repositories, governance, and capability. The difficulty is often not recognizing each term but separating two terms that appear together. For every definition, write one contrast: what nearby concept is it not, and when would the difference matter?
Use concept pairs to sharpen recall: view versus viewpoint, artifact versus deliverable, architecture building block versus solution building block, stakeholder versus concern, principle versus requirement. For each pair, create a short organizational example. Examples force the definition to carry meaning and make distractors easier to reject when an exam option uses a familiar word in the wrong role.
This is where TOGAF-focused preparation advice can be useful as a supporting layer, provided the official TOGAF 9 syllabus remains the authority. Practice questions should expose terminology confusion rather than become the source of definitions.
Candidates often memorize the names associated with reuse and classification without understanding the problem they solve. Think of the enterprise as accumulating architecture knowledge, solution assets, standards, references, and governance records over time. The TOGAF structures around continuum and repository concepts help practitioners classify and manage those assets so teams can reuse what is relevant instead of starting from zero.
Also distinguish classification from storage. The Enterprise Continuum provides ways to think about the progression and reuse of architecture and solution assets, while repository structures concern how relevant outputs and governance information are organized. When these ideas are reduced to one memorized list, candidates can miss questions that ask what problem each construct solves.
When studying, build a simple example repository for an imaginary organization. Place principles, reference architectures, standards, reusable building blocks, and project-specific artifacts into the picture. The act of classifying them makes the abstract terminology easier to retrieve.
Enterprise architecture cannot operate as a private modeling exercise. OG0-091 therefore expects understanding of governance, organizational structures, skills, responsibilities, compliance, and the capability needed to sustain architecture work. Ask how decisions are authorized, how deviations are handled, and how architecture work becomes part of normal change management.
Architecture capability includes people, roles, skills, processes, governance mechanisms, and supporting structures. Consider how an organization would launch an architecture practice from scratch: who sponsors it, what principles guide decisions, where standards are stored, how compliance is assessed, and how teams escalate exceptions. That concrete picture turns capability material into an operating model.
This is also a useful bridge to The Open Group certifications. The framework has value because organizations can institutionalize architecture practice, not merely because individuals know the phase names.
Because OG0-091 is closed book, frequent retrieval matters. Build short quizzes from the syllabus, recreate the ADM from memory, define key terms without prompts, and explain distinctions aloud. Active recall is especially effective for material with many closely related concepts because it reveals whether a definition can be produced rather than merely recognized on a page.
Timed retrieval should be introduced before the final week. Set a 20-question mixed block and allow roughly the same pace as the real exam, then review every item by concept family. A candidate who knows the material but consistently needs two or three minutes to distinguish terms still has an exam-readiness problem. Speed should emerge from clarity, not from reading faster.
Keep notes concise. As the exam approaches, reduce each topic to a small set of definitions, relationships, purposes, and contrasts. If a page of notes cannot be explained without rereading it, the material is not yet exam-ready.
Candidates who want the full TOGAF 9 Certified credential can continue with OG0-092 Part 2, which tests application through open-book scenarios. The OG0-093 combined exam places Part 1 and Part 2 into a single session. The content is related, but the reasoning style changes sharply between the simple multiple-choice Foundation section and the gradient-scored scenario section.
A staged route can be attractive when the learner wants to lock in foundational knowledge first. A combined route can suit candidates already comfortable with both levels. The choice should follow preparation evidence and scheduling needs rather than an assumption that one route is universally easier.
The Open Group’s current portfolio includes both the Version 9.2 syllabus and 10th Edition certifications. The newer TOGAF 10th Edition framework is organized around modular Bodies of Knowledge and uses different exam references. Candidates should avoid mixing objective lists or pass thresholds simply because much of the architecture vocabulary overlaps.
If your goal is the newer path, study OGEA-101 directly. If your goal is OG0-091, keep the TOGAF 9 syllabus as the exam boundary while using newer material only for broader professional context.
Version comparison can still be professionally useful after the exam boundary is clear. A TOGAF 9 candidate may want to understand how the certification portfolio evolved and why the 10th Edition emphasizes modular Bodies of Knowledge. Keep that comparison in a separate note from the exam notebook. Separation lets you gain broader architectural context without allowing newer terms, structures, or pass rules to contaminate answers to a Version 9.2 assessment.
A strong OG0-091 candidate can explain the ADM lifecycle, place supporting concepts around it, distinguish commonly confused terms, and answer mixed questions without depending on chapter order. Timed practice should confirm that 40 questions can be handled within an hour without rushing the final items.
Before booking, verify the live exam page and language option through The Open Group or its examination provider. Then make the final weeks about retrieval and discrimination. The objective is not to memorize every sentence of TOGAF 9; it is to recognize how the framework is structured and why each concept exists.
Include mixed questions that force you to move between the ADM, content concepts, governance, repository ideas, and capability without warning. Topic-by-topic scores can look strong even when switching costs are high. The real exam is mixed, so final practice should prove that you can identify the tested concept from the wording rather than from the chapter you happened to be studying.
Use the official syllabus as the final completeness check. Mark each learning outcome only after you can explain it without notes and recognize it in a mixed question. This avoids a common problem with broad frameworks: candidates feel generally comfortable because the terminology is familiar while one or two less-used areas remain effectively unstudied. Completeness should be demonstrated objective by objective before the last full practice set.
A final oral review is useful: explain TOGAF 9 to someone who has not studied it, moving from architecture capability through the ADM and into governance and reusable content. Any point where the explanation becomes a list of unexplained terms marks a topic that needs one more pass. Clear explanation is a strong proxy for the kind of discrimination a closed-book Foundation exam requires.
