Salesforce Certified Data 360 Consultant is the current credential for professionals who design and implement Salesforce’s enterprise data platform in customer-facing environments. The active exam guide aligns to the Spring ’26 release and treats Data 360 as more than an ingestion product: candidates are expected to understand positioning, administration, source connection, harmonization, identity resolution, analysis, activation, and the platform’s role in predictive and generative AI.
That breadth makes the certification useful for administrators, consultants, business analysts, solution architects, technical marketers, and other practitioners who need to turn fragmented customer data into governed, usable profiles and actions. It also means preparation should not be reduced to memorizing feature names. Strong candidates understand why a design works, what can go wrong, and how data moves from a source system to a business outcome.
The current exam contains 60 scored multiple-choice questions with up to five additional unscored questions, allows 105 minutes, and uses a 70% passing score. There is no prerequisite. Salesforce recommends hands-on experience with data strategy, modeling, implementation, and multiple Salesforce products before sitting the exam.
The certification begins with solution positioning because implementation decisions depend on understanding the role of the platform. Data 360 is intended to connect information from multiple systems, harmonize different structures, resolve identities, calculate insights, and activate data back into business processes. A consultant therefore needs to explain both the technical mechanics and the business value of creating a trusted customer data layer.
This connects naturally with the broader discipline of data architecture. Source systems remain systems of record for many operational facts, while Data 360 creates a unified layer that can support segmentation, analytics, automation, and AI. Good architecture makes those responsibilities explicit rather than pretending that every system should own the same data.
The positioning domain asks candidates to explain key terminology, business value, initial use cases, data ethics, governance, and the platform’s foundational role in predictive and generative AI. These topics matter because a technically valid implementation can still fail if the project starts without a defined use case or if stakeholders assume that data unification automatically creates trustworthy insight.
A practical study method is to take several business scenarios—such as churn reduction, service personalization, audience activation, or agent context—and map the minimum data needed for each one. Then identify data owners, latency expectations, consent constraints, quality requirements, and downstream actions. That exercise forces the candidate to connect platform capabilities with measurable outcomes rather than treating the platform as an abstract catalog of features.
Data 360 setup and administration represents 13% of the exam. Candidates need to understand permissions, permission sets, organization-wide settings, development lifecycle tooling, governance requirements, and troubleshooting. These are not secondary concerns. Enterprise data platforms become difficult to operate when ownership, access, environments, and release processes are improvised after implementation.
The strongest preparation links platform configuration to data governance and lineage. A useful data product needs clear definitions, accountable owners, traceable origins, appropriate access, and a way to understand how changes affect downstream consumers. Candidates should be able to reason about those controls even when an exam scenario does not explicitly use the word “governance.”
Data Source Connection and Ingestion accounts for 18% of the exam. The guide expects knowledge of ingestion from varied sources, transformation options, data collaboration, and Zero-Copy patterns. The important distinction is between moving data into the platform and making data available without unnecessary duplication. The right approach depends on freshness, volume, ownership, security, latency, and the capabilities of the source.
Preparation should include realistic failure modes: schema drift, inconsistent identifiers, delayed source feeds, duplicate records, incomplete attributes, and unexpected volume. Those problems are easier to recognize when candidates also understand data quality fundamentals. An ingestion pipeline that runs successfully can still produce poor outcomes if the incoming data is incomplete, stale, or semantically inconsistent.
Harmonization and Unification is 17% of the blueprint. Candidates need to model data in Data 360 and understand the purpose and supported use cases of unification. A common mistake is to think that matching records is the entire problem. In practice, an organization first needs consistent concepts: what constitutes a customer, household, account, product, interaction, consent record, or transaction, and which fields are authoritative when sources disagree.
This is where the active Salesforce Platform Data Architect skill set becomes complementary. The Data 360 consultant focuses on the enterprise data platform and unification process, while the data architect goes deeper into Salesforce data modeling, large-data-volume design, governance, migration, and performance. Candidates working on complex implementations benefit from understanding both perspectives.
Data Enhancements, Sharing, and Analysis represents 18% of the current exam. Candidates should understand calculated insights, data sharing, reporting, dashboards, and how predictive or generative AI can be applied to customer scenarios. The exam is not asking whether a dashboard can be built; it is testing whether the candidate can select the right mechanism for the business question and data context.
Clear measurement design matters here. Dashboard and KPI design is useful because unified data only becomes valuable when users can interpret it correctly. A consultant should distinguish descriptive metrics from predictive outputs, explain the grain of a measure, and avoid presenting a calculated insight as if it were an operational source-of-truth field.
Data Activations and Utilization accounts for 20% of the exam, the largest single domain. Candidates need to understand segmentation, segment management, activations, acting on data, and using Data 360 in Salesforce flows. This reflects a practical reality: collecting and unifying information has limited value unless the organization can use it in marketing, sales, service, automation, analytics, or AI-assisted work.
Activation scenarios should be studied end to end. Define the audience or condition, identify the data required, determine how frequently it must update, select the activation target, and define what should happen when a person enters or leaves the segment. Then consider consent, suppression, duplicate action, and monitoring. That sequence is far more durable than memorizing screens.
The current blueprint explicitly connects Data 360 to predictive and generative AI. Agents and AI features become more useful when they can work with unified, governed, context-rich data. That does not mean a Data 360 consultant must become an AI specialist, but it does mean the candidate should understand why grounding, access control, freshness, and identity resolution affect AI quality.
Practitioners moving deeper into that layer can pair this path with Salesforce Agentforce Specialist. The two credentials validate different responsibilities: Data 360 concentrates on the data platform and activation layer, while Agentforce focuses on configuring, managing, and optimizing agent capabilities. Together they reflect an increasingly common implementation pattern in which trusted enterprise data supports AI-driven workflows.
A strong preparation project is more useful than a disconnected set of feature exercises. Choose a scenario with several sources—for example CRM contacts, commerce transactions, service interactions, and a web-engagement feed. Define the source schemas, ingestion method, harmonized model, identity rules, calculated insight, segment, activation target, permission model, and operational monitoring approach. Then introduce bad data and changed requirements to see how the design behaves.
Use other Salesforce certifications to fill gaps rather than treating Data 360 as an isolated product. Business-analysis skills help with discovery, data-architecture skills improve modeling, administration knowledge improves security and lifecycle management, and Agentforce knowledge clarifies how unified data is consumed by newer AI experiences.
The older Salesforce Data Cloud Consultant naming still appears in historical material, but current preparation should follow the active Data 360 Consultant blueprint and terminology. The goal is not to memorize an old product vocabulary. It is to demonstrate that you can position, configure, unify, govern, analyze, and activate enterprise customer data in a maintainable way.
For exam readiness, candidates should also practice explaining architecture to two audiences. A technical team may ask about ingestion, data model objects, identity rules, refresh behavior, activation targets, or troubleshooting. A business stakeholder may ask why unification is needed, which use case should go first, how consent is protected, or how value will be measured. The consultant has to translate between those conversations without losing precision. Being able to draw the data journey on one page—sources, harmonization, unification, insights, segments, activations, and consumers—is a useful test of whether the design is truly understood.
Operational thinking is equally important. A production implementation needs owners for failed ingestions, identity-resolution anomalies, stale segments, permission changes, and activation errors. Decide which conditions should trigger alerts, who investigates them, and what evidence is needed before a problem is considered resolved. This makes troubleshooting part of the design rather than an emergency activity after launch. It also reinforces why the exam includes setup, administration, and lifecycle tooling alongside the more visible customer-data features.
Finally, review the blueprint by dependency rather than only by percentage. Ingestion quality affects harmonization; harmonization affects identity resolution; identity affects calculated insights and segments; governance affects every downstream consumer; and activation exposes whether the upstream model was useful. When candidates can trace those dependencies through a scenario, they are much less likely to be fooled by an answer that fixes one configuration detail while leaving the larger data problem unsolved.
